When I was first diagnosed with MS my doctors made it very clear to me that I needed to live a healthy lifestyle in order feel good. I am the type of person that when you go in for your physical and they ask you how much exercise you get each day I would look to the left, bite my tongue, and then lie through my teeth and say, "A little bit." Are you kidding me!! I have to exercise. When I first met my husband he loved to run and I used to say to him, "If I ever commit a crime, my punishment should not be jail time, it would be to force me to run because I cannot imagine any worse of a punishment." Don't get me wrong, I have been a yo-yo dieter and one who does physical activity on and off, but I have never stuck with anything for very long.
After having my daughter I knew it was time to get my butt in shape. I hate the word diet. It is a four letter word right! I started myself on a "Healthy Me Plan". I eat breakfast everyday. During the week while I am at work I have cereal and then I stock up on Smart Ones for lunch. These are frozen weight watchers meals. There are a handful that I don't care for, but overall they are pretty good and they have a large variety so i don't get bored. Then at dinner I eat whatever meal I make for the family, but I limit my servings to one, unless it is veggies then I can have more of that. The weekends are my free days, but I still try not to overdo it. I have also started an exercise program that I can do in the comfort of my own basement. I bought Zumba DVD's from a coworker. There are 4 different video's so I don't get bored doing the same thing every day. There is a 20 minute workout that I like to do on Mon, Tue, and Thur. Then a 40 minute DVD on Wed and then the killer one. . . . 50 minute workout on Sunday. I usually don't workout on Friday and Saturday's. This is the regime that I try to keep up, but If I miss a day it is not the end of the world! Zumba is all about dancing so it is super fun. Who doesn't love to dance right?!? It makes me feel happy and I want to get as much use out of these legs while I still can!
One thing that I try to do with everything in my life is to try and look at the positive in all things. This is one of the positive things that has come out of me being diagnosed with MS. I feel great! I have so much more energy now then I did before and I feel like I can keep up with my kids easier. I discovered the other day that I actually have a collar bone!! I used to think you could only see this on skinny people, but you can actually see mine now.
I guess it is the little things in life isn't it!
